OAK HILL – An Ironton man is dead from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Jackson County early Monday morning.

Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Post in Jackson are investigating the accident that killed Ricky E. Friend, 46, of Ironton. The accident occurred on State Route 93 near the intersection of County Road 47 (Clay Banner Road).

According to police reports, Friend – driving a 1994 Ford Probe – was traveling westbound on the county road and pulled into the path of an oncoming semi-tractor trailer driven by Ronnie J. Canada, 48, of Portsmouth that was traveling north on 93.

The semi struck Friend’s car on the left side, pushing both vehicles into the westbound lane of Route 93. The semi then overturned.

Friend died at the scene and was transported to Mayhew Funeral Home. Canada did not sustain injuries.
