County commission takes actions

At its regular Thursday meeting the Lawrence County Commission approved the following actions:

• Right of way permit for Shawn and Melissa Clark to enter the right of way on County Road 52 for driveway access;

• Demolition agreement with Keith and Johnda Simmons on State Route 243;

• Promotion of Gerald Ferguson from maintenance worker to income maintenance work at the Department of Job and Family Services;

• Transfer of Brian Soper from temporary full-time EMT to permanent full-time EMT;

• Change order for landslide repair on County Road 16 for $13,640;

• Receipt of weekly dog warden report where two dogs were euthanized, 45 dogs adopted and two redeemed by their owners.

 

Fairland grad completes basic training

Air Force Airman Matthew J. Bloomfield graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Bloomfield is the son of Teresa Bond of Ironton.

He is a 2010 graduate of Fairland High School, Proctorville.

 

Chesapeake church gets new pastor

CHESAPEAKE — Randy M. See of Richmond, Va., has accepted a call to the pastorate of Union Missionary Baptist Church of Chesapeake.

Pastor See’s first official Sunday will be Oct. 7. He will succeed the Rev. Robert L. Barbour of Chesapeake, who has retired and moved to Westfield, Ind., after 34 years as Union’s pastor.

See has pastored three churches, two in North Carolina, the first of which he and his wife Linda planted. He comes to Union from a church he has pastored for four years in Richmond, Virginia. He first moved to the Richmond area as the executive vice president of Atlantic Baptist Bible College.

See graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. and later earned two master’s degrees. He is a doctorate of ministry candidate at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. See and his wife, have four grown daughters.
