The Chesapeake Lady Panthers nipped the Rock Hill Redwomen 1-0 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game that was decided on a misplayed pop up.

"The wind was blowing and it was one of those that you could tell was going to be trouble from the time it left the bat," Panthers coach Robb Morrison said.

Leading off the bottom of the sixth, Emily Delimpo hit a pop up that fell to the ground between first and second base and started rolling back toward the home plate. The ball was picked up and thrown to second base in an attempt to get Delimpo, but the throw went into the outfield and rolled to the fence allowing Delimpo to score.

"Other than the one play, the girls played well. And Tess Howard pitched the best game of her career. She showed a lot of poise. A couple of times she had a runner at third with one out and pitched out of the inning."

Howard allowed just two hits, struck out five and walked three in suffering the tough-luck loss.

White permitted only three hits, struck out seven, and did not issue a walk to get the win.

Chesapeake, 4-5 and 2-2 in the OVC, hosts Huntington High Wednesday and travels to Ironton on Thursday.

Rock Hill, 4-5 and 1-3, plays at Fairland Wednesday in a league game, and then hosts Symmes Valley Thursday.
