WHEELING, W.Va. – A misdemeanor charge of assaulting a police officer against Dallas Cowboys receiver Joey Galloway was dropped Monday.

Wheeling police Pfc. Patricia Boniey withdrew her complaint and no further charges are expected against Galloway, said a statement released by lawyers representing Boniey and Galloway.

The charge stemmed from a May 14 party Galloway threw in a Wheeling hotel to celebrate his $42 million contract with the Cowboys. Galloway is a native of Bellaire, Ohio, across the Ohio River from Wheeling, and played at Ohio State. The party led to a brawl involving more than 100 of the 200 guests.

The charge was not filed until September.

The statement, released Monday by the Ohio County prosecutor’s office, said neither Galloway nor Boniey would make any further comment.

The statement said that Boniey realized the charges should be dismissed after further investigation.

Galloway’s lawyer, David Jividen, said Galloway authorized him to cooperate with the authorities. After that, it became clear that the charge should be dismissed.

In her complaint, Boniey said she arrived at the hotel to respond to complaints about the fight and was immediately confronted by Galloway, who ”came towards me in a rage” and threatened her and her family.
