The National Weather Service says cold air will persist into the weekend across Ohio and the Tri-State.

And, weather experts warn that cold air and brisk winds spells danger for anyone outdoors.

If you must go outside, wear several layers of clothing because layers will keep you warmer, said experts at The Weather Channel.

Other tips:

– Gloves and a hat will keep you from losing body heat.

– Warm up by stretching before you go outside.

– Keep dry to prevent a loss of body heat.

– Watch for signs of frostbite. That is the loss of feeling and a white, pale appearance in fingers, toes, nose, or ear lobes. Seek medical attention if you suspect frostbite.

– Also, watch for signs of hypothermia. Symptoms include uncontrollable shivering, slow or slurred speech, memory lapses, frequent stumbling, drowsiness, and exhaustion.

Arctic air settled into the state overnight. Light snow had tapered off to scattered flurries. Early morning temperatures Friday were in the single digits, with below zero readings in a few locations. Winds were pushing wind chill readings as low as 20 below.

Highs Saturday will be in the teens to around 20. Lows will be from 5 below to 5 above tonight and near 10 above by Sunday morning.
