In a battle of youthful teams, the Rock Hill Redmen beat the St. Joe Flyers 57-47 Tuesday.

Neither team has a senior among its starting lineup and only a total of six juniors are on their combined rosters.

Despite the lack of veterans, the two teams put on an exciting performance.

Rock Hill’s David Schug scored a game-high 28 points including a 13-for-18 effort at the foul line to give coach Marty Mills the win in his Redmen debut.

Gabe Ruggles added 11 points.

St. Joe (0-2) was led by Bill Dressel with 21 points. Joe Laber added eight.

"We played a little better, but Rock Hill just played more aggressive than we did and that was the difference in the game," Flyers coach Kevin Sheridan said.

Schug scored eight points the first quarter to offset four points each by Dressel and Laber and Rock Hill took a 12-11 edge.

Schug came back to score 10 points the second quarter and the lead was 25-23 at the break. Dressel knocked down six points in the quarter.

Ricky McDonie scored five the third quarter as Rock Hill opened up a 40-33 lead after three quarters.

Schug was 7-of-10 from the foul line the fourth quarter and Ruggles scored six points as the Redmen stopped any St. Joe comeback hopes.

Dressel had six more points the fourth quarter to keep the Flyers in contention.

In the reserve game, St. Joe won 21-12 as Matt Hornbeck scored eight, Christopher Keeney five, and Shawn Hacker four. Rock Hill was led by Alvin Jenkins with six.
