BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Maurice Hines scored on a 60-yard punt return with 2:45 remaining as Marshall rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat Bowling Green 20-13 Saturday.

The Thundering Herd (5-4, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) held the Falcons (2-7, 2-4) to one first down on seven second-half possessions and used a 9-play, 97-yard drive to tie the score 13-13 in the fourth quarter.

J.R. Jenkins kicked field goals of 29 and 30 yards to pull Marshall within 13-6 before Frank Wallace capped the long drive with a 23-yard touchdown run with 3:54 to play.

The Falcons punted on their next possession and, after Hines’ return gave the Herd the lead, Andy Sahm threw an interception and Marshall ran out the clock.

The win raised Marshall’s record to 4-0 against teams in the Eastern Division. Wins over Miami (Ohio) and Ohio in its last two games would put the Herd in the conference title game for the fourth straight season.

Sahm gave Bowling Green a 7-0 lead with a 22-yard touchdown pass to David Bautista in the first quarter. He finished 12-of-22 for 123 yards with three interceptions and was sacked five times.

Wallace rushed for a game-high 86 yards on 20 carries. Byron Leftwich completed 20-of-35 passes for 202 yards and two interceptions for Marshall. Bautista caught six passes for 78 yards.

Mike Knapp kicked field goals of 22 and 27 yards for Bowling Green. The Falcons were held to 85 yards rushing on 40 carries.
