Chamber hosts candidates’ forum Tuesday

With just one week before the Nov. 6 election, voters will get another chance to hear from local candidates.

WSAZ-TV morning news anchor Rob Johnson will moderate the bi-annual candidates’ forum hosted by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. The public event will be Tuesday at Ohio University Southern in Ironton.

The forum will feature all legislative races that are on the ballot. Candidates will include Democrat Charlie Wilson who is challenging incumbent Republican Bill Johnson for the U.S. House of Representatives 6th District seat; Republican Ryan Smith facing Democrat Josh Bailey for the 93rd Ohio House seat; Republican Terry Johnson and his opponent, Democrat John Haas, both seeking the 90th District Ohio House seat; and all five Lawrence County Commission candidates. Republican incumbent Bill Pratt is facing Democrat Carl Robinson. Republican incumbent Freddie Hayes is facing Democrat Doug Malone. Republican Les Boggs is running unopposed.

The panel asking questions of the candidates will feature Huntington Herald Dispatch reporter Dave Malloy, David Lucas, associate professor of communications studies at Ohio University Southern, and an another panelist yet to be named.

The forum will begin at 6 p.m. in the Collins Center, Bowman Auditorium. The candidates and party committee members are invited to separate receptions beginning at 5 p.m. in the Ohio and 1804 rooms in the Collins Center.

The forum is free and open to the public.
