John McWhorter

John Bradley King McWhorter; 28, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky., with his loving family at his side.

He was born Jan. 27, 1984, a son of Carrie Clouse McWhorter of Ironton and Michael King (Brenda) McWhorter of Catlettsburg, Ky. He was a 2003 graduate of Ironton High School and of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nancy Hamrick Clouse.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Michael Brandon McWhorter; three sisters, Bethany McWhorter Pemberton and Brianna Nicole McWhorter all of Ironton, and Brittany McWhorter Miller of Russell, Ky.; his maternal grandparents, Oran and Mary Jane Clouse; his paternal grandparents, Raymond King McWhorter and his wife Cynthia of Georgetown, Ky., and Barbara McWhorter Mowery and her husband Jim of Wurtland, Ky.; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the neighborhood church, Faith United Church of the Nazarene located at Third and Elm streets in Ironton with Pastor Jean Ratliff presiding. Burial will follow in the Sugarcreek Cemetery.

 Mary Carman

Mary Lou Hager Carman, 78, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Ironton native was born May 31, 1934, the daughter of the late Stanley and Wilma McCall Gannon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Carman.

Mary Lou attended Ironton City Schools and St. Joseph High School. She was a member of the Goodwill Club at Sherman Thompson Towers, a member of Sharon Baptist Church and a senior companion with the C.O.A.D. Program.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step father, Orville Gannon; and grandparents, Elmer and Mae Hunley and Charles and Mary Hager

She is survived by her life partner, Lloyd Webb of Ironton; a son, Paul Carman of Flatwoods, Ky.; a sister, Rita Justice of Ashland, Ky.; granddaughter, Nikki Carman of Wurtland, Ky.; niece, Debra Martin of Ironton; special great-niece, Aleigha Lawless of Ironton; nephew and his wife, Eddie and Sue Lawless of Huntington, W.Va.; nephew, Scott Lawless of Ironton; nephew and his wife, Eric and Ann Shafer of San Diego, Calif.; great niece, Sydney Shafer of San Diego; and great-niece and her husband, Kristen Lawless-Howerton and Daniel of Lewisburg, W.Va.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with the Rev. Aaron Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.  Earl Perry

Earl Michael (Mike) Perry, 59, of South Point, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Mary Whitt Perry. Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Charles Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point.  Bert Shorts

Bert L. Shorts, 58, Bowersville, formerly of Proctorville, died at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Shorts. His funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at the Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until time of service.

 

 George Hendricks

Funeral services for George Woodrow Hendricks, 96, of Russell, Ky., will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Ky., with Pastor Jennifer Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Ashland Cemetery in Ashland, Ky., with military honors by the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova W.Va., and the West Virginia National Guard. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m., and also from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
