Charles Salyers

Charles C. Salyers, 87, of South Point, went home to be with his Lord on Nov. 14, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. He was born on June 12, 1925, to the late Hubert and Ida Mae Arthurs Salyers and the late A.J. and Maxine Brewer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents; three sons, Charles C. Salyers II, Karl Jeffery and Ray Eugene; and a brother, Dr. Gene David Salyers.

He was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the South Pacific. He retired from South Point Allied Chemical as a chemical operator and from Wackenhut after 26 years as a security guard. He was a life member of the VFW Post 8850, life member of DAV and American Legion Post 0888.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Liltina (Tina) Castle Salyers; a son David (Misty) Salyers of South Point; two daughters, Linda S. Brown of South Point, and Jennifer Hartsock of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two granddaughters, Ashlee Hartsock and Lisa McNeer, both of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; two grandsons, Justin William Brown (U.S. Navy) and Glen David Hartsock. both of San Diego, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Maynard of Ashland, Ky., and Andalene Adams of Coal Grove; and a special cousin, Charles F. Carroll of South Point.

Friends may call Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Military graveside rites will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.

Kathy Ann Thacker Massie, 59, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. She is survived by her husband, Willie Massie. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Wilgus, with burial to follow. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home.
