COAL GROVE — The only casualties in this river battle will be the losing teams.

The second annual “River Battle” between Ohio and Kentucky girls’ basketball teams will be held Saturday at Coal Grove High School.

Last year the Ohio took a 3-2 edge in the matchups between Ohio River border teams.

“Our hope and goal is to make this bigger and better than last year, and in doing so, showcase the talents of girls’ basketball players in our area,” said Coal Grove coach Rick Roach.

The five-game extravaganza begins at 11 a.m. with South Point playing Allen County-Scottsville.

Ironton faces Elliott County, Ky., at 1 p.m. followed by Chesapeake and Rose Hill Christian at 3 p.m., Ironton St. Joseph and Raceland, Ky., at 5 p.m. and host Coal Grove playing Allen County at 7 p.m.

Besides the games, there will be prize giveaways during games and at halftime throughout the day.

Wendy’s will provide participating teams with coupons for meals after their games.
