Burlington- There are eight shopping days until Christmas – and even fewer days to find a Christmas tree.

At the Boy Scouts of America Troop 115 Christmas tree sale at the Burlington Wal-Mart, this weekend likely will wrap up the most successful sale to date, volunteer Don Reed said.

"They’ve all been selling very well," he said. "The trees are nice trees, and that helps. We’ve got Scotch Pine, Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Colorado Blue and White Pine trees. They’ve all held up very well and stayed fresh, too, so they are all still very good trees."

Troop members and volunteers have watched more than 240 trees leave the lot attached to car roofs and bound in truck beds, he said.

Reed, whose grandson is a troop member, said the boys have worked hard to make this year’s sale a success.

"The boys come out and volunteer and work hard every year," he said. "It’s a good group and a good cause for people to come out and support and that’s part of the reason they’ve sold so well, I think."

It always helps to have a goal in mind, and with the proceeds of the sale going to enhancing the boys’ learning and camp activities, focus is not a problem, Reed added.

Extra incentive is there for the taking for the troop members who volunteer to give up weekends and evenings and work at the sale.

"The boys are compensated for the time they work," Reed said. "They earn about $2 an hour for the time they put in here and it is only used for uniform purchases and things like that."

For Lawrence County residents who still haven’t found the fresh, green tree they’ve been searching for, there’s still time to discover it at the scout’s sale, Reed said.

"We’ve got about 15 trees left," he said. "With the way we’ve been selling them, I’d say this is definitely going to be the last weekend we’re out here."

The sale is located on the far end of the Wal-Mart parking lot. Hours are Monday through Friday, 2-10 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 1-10 p.m.

Prices range from $19 to $88, depending on the type of tree and the tree’s height.
