Athens – The Chesapeake Panthers lineup looks like the menu at a McDonald’s: Eight different combination meals.

The Panthers utilized a wide assortment of lineup combinations Saturday night at the McDonald’s Classic as they swamped the Vinton County Vikings 72-55.

"We played in spurts, but you’re going to have that when you’re playing a lot of different combinations," Panthers coach Norm Persin said. "We’ve got a lot of players who are pretty even. We just need to see who can do what in certain situations."

Anthony Delimpo had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the onslaught. Matt Miller added 10 points while Adam Pemberton had 9 points, three assists, and three steals. Zeb Best grabbed six rebounds.

"We played all right. We’re going to get better," Persin said.

Zack Gill had 18 points and Josh Patterson 16 to lead Vinton County.

Delimpo had 8 points the first quarter as Chesapeake raced to a 23-9 lead. Patterson drained three 3-pointers the second quarter as Vinton County outscored the Panthers 18-14. Delimpo scored 8 more and Miller came off the bench to bury a pair of 3-pointers to keep the Panthers up at the half, 37-27.

But the Panthers held the Vikings to a mere 4 points the third quarter and built as much as a 23-point lead the second half.

Chesapeake, 2-0, hosts Tolsia, W.Va., at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Eastern 71, Symmes Valley 61

BEAVER – There was bad news and worse news.

The bad news for the Symmes Valley Vikings was a 71-61 Southern Ohio Conference loss Friday. The worse news was the possible loss of starting center Justin Myers with an injury.

Myers, who was leading the team in scoring and rebounding, left the game in the second quarter and did not return. His status remains uncertain.

The Vikings had 29 turnovers, most of them unforced, as they fell to 2-1 on the season.

"We had too many turnovers. We just didn’t handle the ball very well," Vikings coach Brent Wilcoxon said. "When you turn the ball over that much, you’re limiting the number of shots you take."

Jeremy Copley scored 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Vikings. Matt Hines finished with a game-high 19 points to lead Eastern while Robbie Day scored 15 and Ryan Montgomery 11.

Eastern led 18-16 after the first quarter and 32-26 at the break. Day scored 9 of his points the third quarter as the Eagles pulled away to a 52-36 lead.

Symmes Valley, 0-1 in the SOC, plays at New Boston (2-0) Tuesday in a conference game.
