CHESAPEAKE — It took a “3” to give the Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ their second loss.

Hunter Reeves’ 3-pointer with seven seconds to play gave the Boyd County Lady Lions a 42-39 win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers Friday to win the Lady Peake Holiday Classic.

Chesapeake had a chance to tie the game but a 3-point goal hit the front of the rim.

“It was a tough challenge that we met on the defensive end, but we need to be better on offense,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball.

“We had an outstanding defensive effort and we struggled to get in any kind of rhythm on offense. That’s the way it has been going for us.”

Part of Chesapeake’s offensive woes are reflected by the inability to take care of the basketball. The Lady Panthers were guilty of 28 turnovers, 20 in the first half.

“That’s a bad stat. A lot of those were unforced. We had a couple at the end that hurt us,” said Ball.

Jordan Porter had 19 points and 7 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers (6-2). Sydnee Hall scored 12 points, Kelsey Curry had 7 rebounds and Jackie Nelson had 6 steals and 4 assists.

Taylor Wheeler scored 13 to lead Boyd County (7-2). Olivia Dean-Algoe had 10 points.

The game was 7-7 after the first quarter. Boyd County led 19-15 at the half before the Lady Panthers rallied to go up 29-26 at of three quarters.

In the consolation game, Lincoln County beat Wayne 59-40. Taylor Lucas scored 21 points, Lindsey Prichard 14 and Olivia Dean-Algoe 10 for Lincoln County. Ally Toney had 17 points for Wayne.
