BERLIN — The Fairland Lady Dragons were put on a big stage and they gave a command performance.

Fairland beat the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons 60-47 in the Classic in the Country at Berlin Highland High School Monday morning.

“They were a good team, but our girls rose to the challenge,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan. “Their defense was geared to stop Terra (Stapleton) and the other girls were able to step up and make some plays. It was a good team win.”

The Classic in the Country features some of the top Division I prospects in Ohio.

C-M used the trio of Erin Fair, Kasey Uetrecht and Mary Moyer to constantly swarm Stapleton who still had 13 points and 11 rebounds.

With the defense focused on Stapleton, Chandler Fulks hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the No. 10-ranked Lady Dragons who remained unbeaten in 13 games.

Uetrecht had 14 points 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead Clinton-Massie (13-4). Moyer scored 10 points and Allyson Monnin grabbed 9 rebounds.

The game was tied 15-15 after the first quarter before Fairland inched ahead 26-25 at the half.

The Lady Dragons took a 42-40 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Clinton-Massie tied the game at 46 early in the fourth quarter.

But Fairland went on an 8-0 run to take the lead for good at 54-46 with 2:42 to play.

Fairland turned up its defense in the fourth quarter and held Clinton-Massie to just one of 15 field goal attempts.

The Lady Dragons play at Rock Hill on Thursday and need a win to clinch the Ohio Valley Conference title.
