Lady Pointers fall 52-48 to Gallipolis in tourney

POMEROY — They said it is hard to beat a team three times in one season.
Whoever they are, they are right.
South Point won the two regular season meetings with Gallipolis, but the Lady Pointers lost a tough 52-48 decision to the Blue Angels Monday in the Division II sectional tournament semifinals.
The game started slowly as South Point took an 8-6 lead.
Brett Justice scored 6 points in the second quarter and Haley Rawlins and Abbey Winkler each hit a 3-pointer as South Point built a 22-16 halftime lead.
Gallipolis began the second half with a press and forced 10 turnovers. The flurry of mistakes enabled the Blue Angels to outscore the Lady Pointers 21-9 and take a 37-31 lead.
Kendra Barnes scored 14 points in the quarter including 6 of 6 from the foul line. Rawlins had 5 of South Point’s total in the quarter including another 3-pointer.
Winkler nailed a pair of triples, Rawlins added another and Justice scored 4 points in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Angels were able to convert 6 of 12 from the line and Micah Curfman had 6 points as they held on for the win.
Rawlins led South Point (7-12) with 15 points including four 3-pointers. Justice scored 14 points and Winkler hit three 3-pointers for 9 points.
Barnes scored 24 points to lead Gallipolis (9-14).
