Green gave one of its best efforts of the season but lost 18-6 to the Oak Hill Oaks Friday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

"We played very good and blocked people. We played good defense, we just couldn’t get it in the end zone," said McDavid.

"We had them on the run offensively and defensely. They kids played hard, we just didn’t finish our drives and made too many mistakes."

Brad Bainer ran 17 times for 179 yards as the Bobcats churned out 219 rushing yards and 308 total yards. Quarterback Alex Poe was 4 of 7 for 89 yards and a pair of interceptions.

McDavid gave a lot of the running game credit to the Bobcats offensive line of center Ryan Boggs, guards Kyle Darnell and Jacob Yarnell, Allen Salyers and Ron Blanton at tackle, and tight end Steve Thomas.

"The offensive line had a superb game. Ryan and Kyle being seniors helped the younger kids with calls and showed senior leadership," McDavid said. "Bainer is a heck of a running back and he had a great game, but if (Rick) Perkins and (Tim) Willis don’t block the way they do at fullback, Bainer can’t have the game he had."

Jerry Nichols had a 36-yard touchdown run to put Oak Hill ahead 6-0 the first quarter.

Chad Russ had a 2-yard scoring run that gave the Oaks a 12-0 lead with 4:10 left in the first half.

Green (1-8, 0-4) cut the deficit in half when Alex Poe ran 1-yard for a touchdown with 3:54 left in the third quarter, but Oak Hill managed to get an insurance score when Josh Brunton went 4 yards for a touchdown and it was 18-6.

Green did manage to drive to the Oaks 3-yard line only to fumble the ball away.

Linebackers Kyle Darnell had 17 tackles, Bainer had 12 tackles from outside linebacker, defensive tackle Tim Willis got 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, Steve Thomas and Jason Patton had nine stops each, and Alex Hart had 10 tackles from the cornerback spot.

"Alex played the game hard. He had 10 bone-crushing tackles. Those tackles were felt," McDavid said.

Green plays at Northwest next Friday.
