Marguerite Harper

Dec. 10, 1922-March 24, 2013

Marguerite Elizabeth “Peggy” Feathers Harper, 90, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Watauga, Tenn., native was born Dec. 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Anthon Andrew Feathers and the late Mattie Bowen Feathers Carver. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ervin Harper.

Mrs. Harper was a 1940 graduate of Huntington High School, attended Marshall University and the Booth Business College. She was a homemaker, a former keypunch operator for Ashland Oil and a dealer/manager for Tupperware. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton where she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the  Central Christian Parking Lot Committee and worked in the nursery for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Collis P. Huntington Historical Railroad Society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Nathanial Jackson Feathers, Thomas P. Carver, and Robert “Bob” Carver; and three sisters, Betty Carver Jordan, Evelyn Jane Feathers, and Hilda Carlisle.

She is survived by four children, Susan Harper, Charles “Chuck” (Becky) Harper, Becky (Kent) Stewart, all of Ironton, and Marilyn Harper of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va.; four granddaughters, Sara Harper of Lexington, Ky., Katie (Andrew) Walker of Newport, Ky.,  Laura (Andrew) Keffer of Huntington, W.Va. and Audrey Stewart of Ironton; two sisters, Mary Carver Ball of Pensacola, Fla. and Judy (Bob) Carver Cross of Indianapolis, Ind.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Minister Phil Lemaster and Minister Brent Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made in Marguerite’s honor to the Central Christian Memorial Fund, 1541 S. Lorna Waldo

Aug. 30, 1921-March 24, 2013

Lorna Jean (Broome) Waldo, 91, of Upper Arlington, entered into rest Sunday, March 24, 2013. She was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Ironton to the late Edward and Virgie Broome. She was a graduate of Ironton High School and attended Ohio University. Mom’s  family brought her the greatest pleasure and she enjoyed taking care of them. She was first and foremost a homemaker.  She was an excellent cook – preparing the best fried chicken and green beans around. In addition, very special memories surround her famous noodles – offered only two times a year: Thanksgiving and Christmas.

As our Dad was an avid golfer, at age 50, she decided that if she couldn’t beat him, she would join him, and started taking lessons at Scioto Country Club. They spent many evenings at Scioto, and also enjoyed playing golf at their home away from home, Pelican’s Roost on Sanibel Island. Mom also instilled a love of music in her children and grandchildren. She was an accomplished pianist, and spent many afternoons playing the piano for her own enjoyment.  She was a longtime supporter of the arts – as she was a member of CAPA and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and WOSU. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E.Waldo, grandson, Michael Toothman; and sister, Joyce Gleiss. Lorna will be missed by her children, Terry Waldo, Doug (Cherie Koss-Waldo) Waldo, and Kim (Barth) Toothman; grandchildren, Brett (Jill) Toothman, Mason (fiancée, Franny Kornacki), Avery Toothman, and Jessie Koss-Waldo; and brother, Paul “Ace” (Janet) Mende. A private interment will be held at Union Cemetery. Please join her family for a  celebratory gathering on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. at Ohio State University Golf Course Restaurant. Jan Jordan

Sara Mabery

June 5, 1928-March 23, 2013

Sara Ann Mabery, 84, of Coal Grove, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013, at a local health care center. The Ironton native was born June 5, 1928, the daughter of the late Orlyn “Si” and Margaret Smiley Corn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clell “Jake” Mabery.

Mrs. Mabery was a 1946 graduate of Ironton High School, a homemaker and a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Ironton. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and fiber arts. She was a member of the Youngstown Area Weavers Guild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Avanelle Corn; and a brother, Billy Lee Corn.

She is survived by two daughters, Johnda (Larry) Holston of Warren and Marsha (Fred) Wise of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Raymond (Katie) Holston of Sylvania, Lewis (Brandy) Holston of Warren, Scott Wise and Leigh Ann Purdue both of Kenova, W.Va.; six great grandchildren, Hannah, Hayley, and Isabella Holston all of Sylvania, Kylee Purdue, Taylor Purdue, and Graycen Purdue all of Kenova; two sisters, Joy (William Kinney) Corn and Orleen (Dan) Stoltz of Blue Springs, Mo.; sister-in-law, Wilina Price of Coal Grove; and family friends, Mike and Connie Green of Pataskala.

Nancy Robinson

Jan. 24, 1944-March 22, 2013

Nancy Kay Robinson, 69 of Ironton, passed away Friday, March 22, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Jan. 24, 1944, the daughter of the late William Christian and Anna Mae Weber of Ironton. She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Robinson.

Mrs. Robinson was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and was a cook for Ironton City Schools for 13 years. Nancy was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church and she loved St. Joseph High School due to the fact her grandson attended school there. She was a strong Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Reds fan.  She loved watching her son Scott play baseball at Ashland University. She will be missed by her dog, Donovan. Caregiving was Nancy’s hobby.

In addition to her father and husband, she is preceded in death by stepfather, William Weber; and a infant son,  Ronald William Robinson.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Keri Robinson of Lancaster; a daughter, Christi Brown of Ironton; a grandson, Ronnie Brown of Ironton; a granddaughter, Alexis Washburn of Columbus; two aunts, Helen Aldridge of Ironton and Carolyn Davidson of Hanging Rock; three brothers-in-law and their spouses, John and Sue Robinson of Hanging Rock, Bill and Pat Robinson, of Hanging Rock,and Ray and Debbie Robinson of Macon, Ga.; and numerous cousins.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made towards a college fund for Ronnie Brown, 109 N Columbus St. Apt B.
