PEDRO — Whew!

In a game that took 10 innings, Dakota Hutchinson hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run as the Chesapeake Panthers edged the Rock Hill Redmen 5-4 on Saturday to win the Wooden Bat Tournament.

“Obviously, it was a great game. Chesapeake has a nice team and they did a nice job,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“But I was pleased with our effort. We played pretty good defense except for one inning. Our pitchers had 12 strikeouts and only three walks in 10 innings. I’ll take that. (Levi) Wilds pitched a nice game. He kept them off-balance with his curveball.”

Wilds worked seven innings and struck out 10 with just one walk. Only two of the four runs he allowed were earned.

Rock Hill (4-1) had tied the game at 4-4 with two runs in the sixth. Ryan Krum and Jonah Cox walked, Laden Delawder put down a sacrifice bunt and Jack Goodwin delivered a two-run single.

Chesapeake (4-3) got the winning run when Mike Walters singled and Brett Curry doubled to start the 10th. Hutchinson then hit his sacrifice fly.

The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Walters singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Koby McWhorter. Bobby Arthur reached on an error as the second run scored.

The lead went to 3-0 in the third when Blake Lester singled, stole second, took third on a sacrifice and came home on a hit by McWhorter.

Rock Hill got a run in the fourth when Evan Morris walked, stole second, moved up when Austin Kidd was safe on an error and scored on a passed ball.

In the fifth, Joe Bias homered off the top of the fence to put Chesapeake up 4-1, but in the bottom of the inning Delawder walked, stole second and scored on a hit by Jonathan Joseph as the Redmen got within 4-2.

Walters was 3-5, Hutchinson and Lester 2-4, and Curry and McWhorter 2-5 as Chesapeake had 12 hits.

Kidd was 2-4 as Rock Hill had seven hits.
