AID — Maybe a sheriff’s deputy gave the Symmes Valley Vikings a ticket for loitering.

The Vikings hung around for five innings before the Ashland Tomcats pulled away to an 11-6 win on Saturday.

Ashland (7-6) trailed after four innings, took a 7-5 lead in the fourth before finally getting two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.

“You want to win, but we competed for awhile. I was proud of them,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The Tomcats took a 1-0 lead in the first but the Vikings took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the inning.

D.J. Miller walked, stole second and Alec Herrell doubled. Seth Jarrell had an RBI single and Tanner Mays and Jacob Easthom each hit a sacrifice fly.

Ashland regained the lead with three runs in the top of the third, but the Vikings answered with two in the bottom of the frame to lead 5-4.

Miller walked, Herrell singled and the pair pulled off a double steal and each scored on a ground out.

Ashland got three runs in the fourth to take the lead for good at 7-5. The Tomcats then scored five runs late to lead 11-5.

Symmes Valley got its final run in the bottom of the seventh when Miller reached on an error and Herell and Easthom singled.
