Lady Dragons rally to beat Clay, 6-3

PORTSMOUTH — The Fairland Lady Dragons must like late-inning rallies.

For the second straight game, the Lady Dragons rallied late and beat the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers 6-3 on Thursday.

The Lady Dragons trailed 3-1 heading into the sixth inning when they put together a five-run rally.

Mackenzie Riley was safe on an error, Chandler Fulks reached on a fielder’s choice and Haley Woodall had a two-run single.

Ellen Hinshaw walked and Jaime Phillips followed with a two-run double. Arealle Rice capped the rally with an RBI single.

Clay took a 2-0 led in the first inning. Fairland cut the deficit in half with a run in the fourth when Woodall doubled and Hinshaw singled.

But Clay got the run back in the fifth inning setting the stage for Fairland’s comeback.

Fulks got the win with a six-hitter. She struck out seven and walked two.

Autumn Griffith took the loss for Clay (8-4). She struck out eight, walked one and hit a batter.

The Lady Dragons (9-6) had eight hits with Woodall going 3-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Phillips was 2-3 with a double and two RBIs.
