Weapons and ammunition landed a Kentucky man behind bars in Ironton Monday after police responded to a call of the alleged gun-wielding man going door-to-door in an apartment complex.

Adam Collins, 33, of 4583 Skyline Drive, Ashland, Ky., was arrested and taken to the Lawrence County Jail after Ironton Police officers found several weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in the man’s pickup truck in the parking lot of an Ironton apartment complex.

Det. Joe Ross said officers responded to the 100 block of North Fourth Street at about 7:30 p.m. Monday on a call of a man going door-to-door looking for someone who had stolen from him.

When officers arrived, they found Collins in his truck in the parking lot of the apartment complex. When the man was patted down for safety, officers found two loaded pistol magazines in his pockets.

Ross also said the officers saw a handgun in plain sight on the passenger seat of the truck. The handgun was loaded and had one round in the chamber, Ross said.

According to a police report, upon a search of the truck, officers found a brown backpack with several knives, more than 500 rounds of .22 long riffle ammunition and prescription drugs.

Ross said the man did not have a conceal/carry permit but the guns were not stolen.

Also found in the truck, according to the report, was an AK47 and loaded magazine and a .22 Ruger riffle with a loaded magazine.

Ironton Police Chief Dan Johnson said a bomb squad was called in after an unidentified cylindrical-shaped object was also found in the vehicle.

The item was X-rayed and detonated and was found to not be an explosive device.

Collins was charged with improperly handling firearms in a vehicle, having weapons under a disability and possession of drugs. The man bonded out of jail shortly after his arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Ironton Municipal Court.
