Colleen Mullens

Colleen Mullens, 67, of Pedro passed away Thursday June 27, 2013, at Concord Health and Rehabilitation in Wheelersburg. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born May 28, 1946, a daughter of the late Willard (Red) Carmon and Virgie Eaches Carmon.

Mrs. Mullens attended Rock Hill Schools and was a loving mother and housewife. She attended Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Colleen loved to work in her flower garden. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, She always put her family before herself. Most of all she enjoyed going to church praising her Lord. She enjoyed listening to gospel music. She was very thankful for her family and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her husband.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Ray Carmon and Harold “Huck” Carmon; and sister, Juanita R. Lewis.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Sgt. Joe Ray Mullens whom she married June 18, 1964; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Eric Boggs of Portsmouth; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Kay and Dennis Young of Ironton; granddaughter and fiancé, Melissa Kay Aldridge and Brian Akers of Ironton; granddaughter and fiancé, Megan Leighann Aldridge and Dakota Pressley of Portsmouth; grandson; Britton Allen Aldridge Jr. of Portsmouth; granddaughter, Tinesha Ellis of Ironton; grandson, Elijah Isaiah Young of Ironton; great-grandson, Jesse Charles Jenkins Jr.; great-granddaughter, Alyssa JoRae Akers; great-granddaughter, Brileigh Nicole Akers; sister, Myrtle Miller of Pedro; brother, Lloyd Carmon of Pedro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck McCormick officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery. Mark Thimmes

Mark Stephen Thimmes passed away at his home in Dover, Del. He was born in Portsmouth, the son of Walter F. Thimmes Jr., and Betty Thimmes Guthrie.

He graduated from Ironton High School in 1967. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1968. Upon completing basic training, he was stationed at Dover Air Force Base. After his discharge, he remained in Dover.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Dover.

He graduated from Delaware State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He then received his master’s degree in business from Southern Illinois University.

He was employed with Playtex Inc. and later with Sears Distribution Center in Wilmington, Del.

He was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Gary P. Thimmes; his sister, Marianne “Sissy” Crance; and a niece, Ashley Catherine Crance.

He is survived by his son, Gregory Thimmes (Jamie) and grandson, Nicholas Thimmes; his son, Stephen Thimmes; his mother, Betty Thimmes Guthrie; a stepbrother, Randy Guthrie; a stepsister, Cheryl Wu; nephews, Ryan Crance and Matthew Crance; brother-in-law, Rick Crance; and a special friend and caregiver, Judy Vetter.

A memorial service will be held at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg in the mausoleum on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jan Williams of First Presbyterian Church in Ironton officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church General Fund, 201 N. Fifth St., Ironton, OH 45638.

 

 

Lawrence Dust

Lawrence “Larry” Dudley Dust, 77 of Ironton, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his residence. The Detroit, Mich., native was born June 12, 1936, the son of the late William and Daisy McKluskey Dust. He is preceded in death by his wife Ersley May Dust.

Mr. Dust is a retired United States Army veteran where he served his country for 20 years retiring in 1978. He was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Mary May Richmond; three brothers, Henery “Hank” Dust, Bobby Dust, and William E. “Billy Boy” Dust; and three sisters, Ethel Brown, Alvina Hock, and Lila Gauthrie.

He is survived by four sons, Larry R. Dust of Columbus, William “Joe” Dust of Ironton, Scott T.A. Dust of Kitts Hill, and Shane Dust of Columbus; a daughter, Ersley “Krecket” Dust Thomas of Ironton; three sisters, Bernice Brown of Rochester, Mich., Lucille Dust of Florida, and Susie Harris of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles and Joanna Dust of Glennie, Mich., and Wayne Dust of Ozark, Ala.

Faye Smathers

Faye Maxine Smathers, 88, of Willow Wood, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home.
