Center dons colors for Independence Day

In early June, the facility was decorated in patriotic colors in observance of Flag Day and Independence Day.

Residents Gene Bishop, Lenvil Golihugh, Amanda Mayes and Myrtle Leibrand attended the annual dinner at Central Christian Church June 1. They were accompanied by Louise Huber, activity director, and Bruce Hensley of social services.

Serving as van driver was Larry Muche of maintenance.

Kathleen LeMaster, director of nursing at Bryant’s, presented certificates to the four new certified nurse’s aides – Lisa Haynes, Crystal Dillon, Julie Lefker and Mary Jenkins – who were honored at a reception June 11.

The class was taught by Lisa Shaffer, LPN.

The ladies of Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist church hosted the June 16 birthday party.

A program, presented by Mary Markel, Marie Lawson, Kristy Redmond and Phyllis Kelley, consisted of group singing and a reading, "Lord, Give Me a Smile."

A quilt made by the ladies was displayed by Mrs. Kelley.

Honorees enjoying the Happy Birthday song, gifts and cake and ice cream were residents Celia Koster, Ronald Ford, Arthur Gardner, Wayetta Carr, Delores Hughes, Mildred White, Bessie Toutman, Myrtle Kiser, Florrice Maxwell and Jake Barnhart.

Mrs. Huber manned the grill for the hot dogs and hamburgers served with other picnic foods at the June 18 cookout in observance of Father’s Day.

Honored at the July 14 birthday party were residents Florence Sanders, Frank Bundy, Clara Martin, Clara Norris, Dorothy Staats, Ruth O’Keefe, Ada Ellis, Stella Pennington and Delores Craig.

Hosting the party were members of the Christ United Methodist Church, who entertained with singing and served refreshments of cake and ice cream.

Resident council president Alice Iddings presided at the early July meeting. The monthly calendar was approved and suggestions were made for special outings and favorite foods.

Receiving certificates at the July 28 reception were seven new certified nurse’s aides – Judy Radcliff, Matt Littlejohn, Clyde Whitt, Tonya Jenkins, Cheryl Runyon, Teresa Bolling and Michele Freeman.

The class was taught by Lisa Shaffer, LPN, and the presentations were made by Kathleen LeMaster, director of nursing.

Fifteen to 20 residents are participating in the adult summer reading program directed by extension librarian Connie Cantrell.

The theme for the bi-monthly sessions is "100 years … A million stories."
