A component of the St. Mary’s Medical Center-Ironton Campus recently received a commendation from the Ohio Senate.

The Ohio Senate recently honored the Family Medical Centers of the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization. A year ago, the CAO opened medical offices on the new Ironton Campus to augment the care available at that site.

The centers received the Gold Seal of Approval as a primary care medical home from the Joint Commission.

“This prestigious honor is a fitting tribute to the CAO for its family medical center has been recognized with accreditation for demonstrating compliance with the Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety,” the commendation states.

The CAO operates seven family medical centers throughout Lawrence County and is credited with having one of the oldest health care operations in the state.

“We are making sure all the different disciplines such as oral health, behavioral health are followed up on,” D.R. Gossett, executive director of the CAO, said. “The care that you receive is well-monitored. We have a team and everybody works in concert.”

Gossett said one of the medical centers’ goals is to get people back to work.

“We have a long history of clinical excellence, which is a credit to our staff,” he said. “They care about what they do, that their patients get good results. We are blessed with physicians and provider teams that really do a great job.”
