Ladies 9-Hole features birthday celebration

PINE GROVE — The Ladies Nine Hole League of the Ironton Country Club met at its regular time on Tuesday and did not let the humid weather slow them down.

Joyce Lewis served as hostess and the women enjoyed her homemade refreshments during the weekly business meeting.

Lewis then arranged the events and pairings for the day.

Besides the women’s weekly league play, several tournaments continued with the annual Ringer Tournament extended for six weeks. Pat Riggs announced that the tournament had to be play on Tuesday during group participation.

After everyone rode their carts along the links and played the assigned events, the ladies made their way back to the clubroom only to find it decorated for a birthday celebration.

Not only was Betty Fraley was the birthday honoree and recipient of cake and ice cream, but she also celebrated by winning one of the golfing events.

Lewis announced the other winners as well: Jane Mains, Riggs and two-event winner Jami Dyer.

Riggs will serve as next week’s hostess.

The weekly meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. in the pro shop followed by golfing events.

Ladies wishing to order the special lunch menu prepared for them the by staff should be placed with the restaurant manager prior to golf play.
