Home ownership has always been a fundamental part of the American dream. Without question, the Habitat for Humanity organization helps those dreams come true.

The Huntington, W.Va.-based nonprofit is continuing its mission to serve Lawrence County.

A second informational workshop will be at 6 p.m. today at the Chamber of Commerce in South Point.

There will be a 20-minute Power Point presentation on Habitat and the application process. Then applications will be distributed. The seminar is free and pre-registration is not required.

Hopefully some deserving Lawrence Countians will take advantage of this.

Anyone who believes that Habitat is simply about giving someone a handout misses the point of the process. Habitat certainly doesn’t just give away homes because the organization insists that recipients be a part of the process and give back to the community.

This program helps individuals who have been working hard to make the home ownership dream come true but simply have been unable to do so for a variety of reasons.

Ultimately, Habitat for Humanity creates responsible citizens who are invested in their home and our community.

That is a win for everyone.
