David L. “Dave” Smith, 74, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at the Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington, W. Va. The Cold Springs, Ky., native was born June 18, 1936, the youngest son of the late Francis O. Smith, Sr. and Willie Anne King Smith. He entered The Pearly Gates to live with his Father and will be spending his time on Eternity Lane, Heaven.
His brothers and sister were Oliver, Jr., Leonidas, and Eugene Smith, and Marjorie Delphine Meyers, all deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ackman Smith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, whom he married May 20, 1977, Beverly Diane Moore Miller Smith, his son and namesake, David L. Smith, Jr., and stepson and helpmate, Michael S. Moore Miller. He was the grandfather of Rachael, Josh and Zack Smith, and the great grandfather of Isaiah, Leah, Kristen and William Smith.
Mr. Smith was a 1954 graduate of Holmes High School in Covington, Ky., and an honorary member of the Coal Grove High Class of 1964. He and his wife operated Miller-Smith Concrete Prod., Inc. and he was a self-employed excavator. He attended the Ashland Assembly of God Church. He was a  past vice president of the Eagles, a member of the Elks Club, U.C.T., and the Order of Foresters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Chapel Church with Brother Dave Schug and Rev. Charles J. Shields officiating. Burial will follow at the Moore Family Section of Zoar Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home, and the body will lie in state one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
