Man seeking information about mother

Published 2:17 pm Wednesday, August 28, 2013

I am researching for a book on my late birth mother Betty Workman, who was from Huntington, W.Va., but lived in Ironton a few months in 1960 while pregnant with me.

She sang with the Harry Ware Trio at the Sand Bar in the Marting/MacArthur Hotel, and she and my three siblings lived in an apartment over Anderson’s Super Market. Their address was 419 1/2 S. Second St.

I have learned that Betty may have used a stage name at the time, Betty Barr.

If anyone spent time in the Sand Bar in the ‘50s or early ‘60s, I would love to talk to you about your memories of the place. If you have photos of the Sand Bar (exterior or interior) or Anderson’s Super Market, those would be of immense value for my book.

Please call me at (817) 995-1914 or email at frank.christlieb@yahoo.com if you can help. Many thanks.

Community could be given chance to buy hall bricks

Since the Civil War Memorial building will be demolished, why not sell the blocks to help make funds for the renovations? I for one, would love to have one or more of the blocks!
