Meigs (1-0) at Fairland (1-0)

Are you ready for some offense?

Both teams put up some big offensive numbers and points last week. Meigs rallied late to outscore Coal Grove 46-44 while Fairland rolled to a 41-7 lead and went on to beat Portsmouth West 41-29.

For Meigs, running back Michael Davis ran 11 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Quaerterback Kalieb Sheets was 11-of-23 for 168 yards and two TDs. He also ran 11 times for 112 yards and a score.

Fairland quarterback Chance Short was 25 of 31 for 311 yards and five TDs. Evan Maddox had eight catches for 147 yards.

 

Rock Hill (0-1) at Gallipolis (0-1)

Gallipolis suffered a lopsided 62-19 loss to Athens last week while the Redmen lost 40-6 to Minford.

The Blue Devils — who were missing their top player in running back Ty Warnimont — were led by quarterback Wade Jarrell who was 15-of-35 for 230 yards and a touchdown. He was intercepted twice. He also rushed 21 times for 67 yards.

Wide receiver Logan Allison had eight receptions for 132 yards and a score.

The Blue Devils defense allowed 327 yards rushing and another 165 yards passing to Athens.

 

Symmes Valley (1-0) at Chillicothe Southeastern

The Southeastern Panthers have one of their biggest teams in terms of numbers with 44 players under first-year head coach Evan Gallaugher.

Southeastern has a average team speed and some experience returning. The offense is led by a couple of returning starters: quarterback Travis Abner and wide receiver Jordan Allen.

The Panthers were just 1-9 last season including a lopsided 67-32 loss to Symmes Valley. They won their opener 19-17 over Northwest as Dezmond Perkins ran for 128 yards and two TDs on nine carries.

 

South Point (1-0) at Wellston (0-1)

The Wellston Golden Rockets lost 14 starters from last year’s 4-6 team and return just four on offense and defense.

Returning are guards Cole Robinson and Chris Williams. Sophomore Braydon Womeldorf takes over at quarterback and will be joined in the backfield by three-year starter Michael Downer at tailback. The fullback will be either Ethan Nalls, Nick Cox or Brandon Foughty.

In last week’s 54-18 loss to Jackson, Womeldorf was 6-of-12 for 103 yards and two touchdowns. The Rockets ran for just 59 yards.

 

Wayne (1-0) at Chesapeake (0-1)

The Wayne Pioneers are coming off back-to-back Class AA state titles as well as a 28-0 win over Tolsia to open the season.

Quarterback Grant Ferguson was 10-of-18 for 120 yards for Wayne. Brody Lunsford scored two TDs and Mason Hodge ran for 76 yards.

The Pioneers defense held Tolsia to 13 yards offense in the second half.

 

Russell (1-0) at Ironton (0-1)

Ironton leads the series 24-3-1. The Fighting Tigers have won 15 strasight in the series including 47-21 last year at Russell. The Red Devils last win was 23-14 at home in 1977.

Both teams have a lot of new starters this year, but the Red Devils have nine juniors and seniors in their starting lineup compared to Ironton with just two seniors and four juniors with no playing experience.
