Opal Ruth Pierce, 82, of Ironton passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Kingsbrook LifeCare Center in Kentucky. The Boyd County, Ky., native was born Oct. 3, 1927, the daughter of the late John and Lucille Wilks Brown.
She was a former waitress for 20 years at the Ironton Moose Club and the Ironton Eagles and was Past Madam President of the Eagles. She was a 1945 graduate of Waterloo High School and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Barton, Warren Brown and Kenneth Brown; and three sisters, Ann Clarkston, Gladys Anderson and Lillian Carman.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra Wise and her husband Everett of Ocala, Fla., Ruth Casey and her husband Fred of Summerfield, Fla., Pamela Woodburn and her husband Homer of Ironton and Beverly Morris and her fiancé, Steve Crager of Ironton; her sisters, Judy Boggs of Ironton, Georgie Little of Chillicothe Josie Malone of Springfield and Virginia Swiger of Margate, Fla., Mildred Adkins of Scottown and Jean Strait of Oakland, Md.; nine Grandchildren, Tammy Nolan, Tracey Long, Terri Jo Lege, Melissa Wright, Charles Scherer, Scott Delawder, Jeff Delawder, Sara Waggoner and Jessica Waggoner; 14 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 12 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Maddy officiating. Burial will follow in Buckeye Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
