SOUTH POINT — Patience is a virtue. It’s also the reason the St. Joseph Female Flyers beat the South Point Lady Pointers 4-1 Saturday in a soccer game.

“Long passes into space are extremely difficult on turf. It’s too fast of a surface and it’s hard to run onto the ball before it goes out of bounds or to the keeper,” said Female Flyers’ coach Kyle Weatherholt.

“We were excellent tonight at playing with patience and moving well off the ball, probably our best performance of the year.”

Emma Saxby scored two unassisted goals, Kaylee Sheridan scored with an assist from Ophelia Weatherholt and Lynsey Booker had a goal with an assist from Sidney Payne.

Saxby’s goals came off takeaways that she turned into nice shots to beat the goalkeeper. Booker’s goal came after a string of good passes and ended with Payne playing a square ball to Booker who blasted the shot into the lower corner of the net from 18 yards out.

The best goal was by Sheridan with a strong header past the keeper thanks to a corner kick from Weatherholt.

“The girls did a great job of controlled short passes rather than playing balls over the top or trying to get through the defense with one long pass,” said coach Weatherholt.

St. Joseph (6-1) visits Boyd County at 11 a.m. Saturday.
