Dolores Schmeisser

Dolores “Jean” (McPeek) Schmeisser, 74, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. She was born Jan. 8, 1939, in Ashland, Ky., to the late Elijah and Hannah K, (Patterson) McPeek.

She was formerly employed at Ashland Daily Independent Newspaper and had been a teacher’s aide at Greenstreet School in New Castle. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharist Minister, a member of the St. Anne Society, Mothers Club of St. Anne and Sunday Religious Education teacher.

Jean was also a member of AARP, a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi, and a volunteer at Henry County Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed being a grandma, gardening, reading, embroidery, pencil art, and she never met a stranger. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Richard Schmeisser; children, Barbara S. (Andrew) Schmeisser of New Mexico, Glen A. (Kelli) Schmeisser of rural Shelby County and Gregory (Janet) Schmeisser of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kristen, Ross, Kate, and Rebekah Schmeisser, and Taylor Aldridge; a great granddaughter, Aida Kellams; a sister, Garnet Marie Damico of Ashland, KY; a niece, Mary Lisa Damico; great nephew, Justin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Frank Damico.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Joe Rautenberg officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, with a prayer service being conducted at 2:30 p.m. Private burial will be in St. Anne Cemetery.

Raymond Schoener

Raymond James Schoener, 88, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Charleroi, Pa., native was born Nov. 23, 1924, the son of the late Albert C. and Anna Selesky Schoener. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anita Mathieu Schoener.

Mr. Schoener was a 1942 graduate of Charleroi High School and received his bachelor’s degree in forestry from Michigan State University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was also a member of the Navy Tail Hook Association, the Michigan State Alumni Association and the U. S. Forest Service Retirees Association. He was in timber management for the U.S. Forest Service retiring in 1985 after 31 years of service with them. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ironton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Anita Howell of Burlington; three sons, Gregory Schoener of Ironton, David Schoener of Grand Blanc, MI and Stephen Schoener of Toronto, Canada; a sister, Lorraine Caruso of Monongahela, Pa.; and nine grandchildren, Barbara Schoener, Albert Schoener, Mathieu Schoener, Andrew Schoener, Jason Schoener, Benjamin Schoener, Jacob Schoener, Ashley Howell and Chelsea Howell.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monda at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ironton, with Father David Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rosary beginning at 5:30 p.m.. Frederick Aylsworth

Frederick L. “Fred” Aylsworth, 72, of South Point, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013. Fred is survived by his wife, Joyce Thomas Aylsworth. There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ironton Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1604 Campbell Drive, Ironton. Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake, is handling arrangements. Anna Arden

Anna Margaret Cook Arden, 88, of Huntington, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Hospice House of Huntington. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery, Huntington, by Pastor Randy See. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Naida Trout

Naida C. Trout, 91, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at home. She is survived by her husband George Robert Trout. Funeral service will be conducted at noon Saturday at Hall Funeral Home by Minister David Roach. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville.
