A South Point man accused of hurting a 2-year-old child admitted his guilt Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Cory Brewer, 23, of 428 Township Road 109, South Point, pleaded guilty to counts of second-degree felonious assault and third-degree endangering children.

Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson previously said the child of Brewer’s girlfriend had been taken to the hospital with a broken arm and leg.

The girlfriend, Michelle Brandenburg, 22, of South Point, then lied to medical professionals about her child’s injuries, saying the girl fell off a slide. It was later discovered that Brewer had caused the injuries.

Brandenburg previously pleaded guilty to child endangerment and obstruction of justice. She was sentenced to four years community control sanctions and STAR.

Judge D. Scott Bowling set sentencing for Brewer on Oct. 30 and continued the man’s bond.

Bowling warned the man that if he failed to show up for sentencing, any negotiated plea deal would be off the table and additional charges could be imposed.

In other cases:

• Shane Lemley, 39, of 597 State Route 775, Proctorville, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of theft from the elderly, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $5,000 own-recognizance and GPS monitoring with a pretrial on Oct. 30.
