Kenneth Ray Smith, 53, of Ironton, went to be with the Lord after a long battle with cancer, Friday, May 21, 2010, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born Dec. 17, 1956, the son of Phyllis E. Propps Smith Cannon of Ironton and the late Carl Lloyd Smith.
Mr. Smith was a 1975 graduate of Rock Hill High and United States Army Veteran. He was a construction worker, of the Baptist faith and loved to fish.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Alice Maxine Massie Smith; and stepfather, Dallas Cannon.
In addition to his mother he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Amy Smith of South Point; a son, Michael Smith of Ironton; two grandchildren, Blake Smith of South Point, and Jaden Smith of Flatwoods, Ky.; a sister and brother in law, Sherry and George Blevins of Argillite, Ky.; two brothers, Lloyd Eugene Smith and Jeffery Smith, both of Ironton; a stepbrother, Tony Cannon Collingsworth; a stepsister, Kathy Duncan; stepbrothers, Butch, Oscar, Joe, Jimmy, Frog, Chuck, Rock, Johnny, Justin and Pedro Massie; the mother of his children, Mary Smith Sanders; three nephews, Robbie (Jeff), David and Dallas Smith; three nieces, Jeanny, Molly, Shamra; and many special friends.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at noon at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Rock Massie officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military rites provided by VFW Post 8850.
