Leo Burton Webb, 83, of Ironton, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, at his residence.
The Ironton native was born Aug. 11, 1926, the son of the late Sylvester and Pearl Lynd Webb. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Evelyn Johnson Webb, whom he married May of 1979.
Mr. Webb was a graduate of Ironton High School. He served in the 5th Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He was serving on the island of Iwo Jima during the invasion and the raising of the U.S. flag. Mr. Webb retired in 1976 after 27 years with the Ironton City Fire Department where he was a former fire chief. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton and a member of the Lawrence Lodge F&AM 198.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Bill Webb, Frank Webb, Lewis Webb, Jimmie Webb, Harold Webb and infant twin brothers; and two sisters, Margie Ferris and Rosemond Hanshaw.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by son and daughter-in-law: Danny and Ann Webb of Ironton; granddaughter, Julie Sands and her husband, Troy of Ironton; grandson, Danny Webb and his wife, Sherri of Georgetown, Ky.; four great grandchildren, Demi Sands, Brock Midkiff, Tyler Webb and Brody Webb; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Betty Webb of Ironton.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. There will be no public visitation. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8850 and Masonic services by the Lawrence Lodge F&AM 198. Pallbearers will be Danny Webb, Troy Sands, Eric Johnson, Jim Johnson, Frank Ford, and Paul Fyffe.
