James McComas

James A. McComas, 84, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Zac Arrowood officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Ridge Cemetery, Andis. James was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Arnold and Alice Webb McComas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Emma Mae Willis McComas; grandson, Shawn Jameson; great grandson, Paul Robert Johnson; sister, Thelma McComas; and two brothers, Lawrence and Ronald McComas.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired as an ironworker from Dayton Malleable Iron Company. James is survived by two daughters, Janice and Robert Jameson of Kitts Hill, and Candy and Rob Evans of South Point; three grandchildren, Lori Johnson of Kitts Hill, Jamie and Sarah Rice of Ironton, and Jeremy and Tammie Rice of Coal Grove; and five great grandchildren, Desaree and Dylan Johnson, Jeremiah, Nate and Ethan Rice; four sisters, Freda Kidder of Florida, Mary McCarley of South Point, Frances McComas of Proctorville and Doreen Cade of South Point; three brothers, Don McComas of Gahanna, John McComas and Tommy McComas, both of Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. We want to thank Hospice House of Huntington and Becky, Zach, Julie, Debbie, Melissa, Denise and Scott for their kindness and compassion for our Father and us during our Father’s sickness. We love you all. Dad’s smile brightened everyone’s day. We will always miss you and Mom. Eat all the ice cream bars in Heaven you want.

Dean Ferguson

Dean Ward Ferguson, Sr. 58, of Ironton, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

The Ironton native was born Sept. 30, 1955, the son of the late Marla Faye Killin Ferguson and James Cecil Ferguson. He was further preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Ferguson.

Dean was a 1973 graduate of Ironton High School and a former employee of Ashland Oil.

He is survived by his two children, Dean Ferguson, Jr. of Ohio and Jennifer Singleton of Kentucky; and grandchildren; his twin brother Dale Ferguson of Virginia; brother, James Ferguson of Oklahoma; his sisters, Brenda Bundy, Lindilou Ferguson, Bilreka Ferguson and Teneka Ferguson, all of Ironton; his aunt and uncle George and Darla Killin of Ashland, Ky.; uncle Ronald Killin of Ashland, Ky.; uncle Richard Killin of Ironton; aunt and uncle Dan and Marlene Ferguson of Ironton along with several cousins and nieces.

Service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Phillips Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

 

Leonard Noble

Leonard Noble, 84, of Ironton, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home.

 

 Elijah Sparks

Elijah Woodrow Sparks, infant son of Tanya Marie Scarberry and Wesley Sparks, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, by Pastor Will Basham at Ridgelawn Memorial Park in the Abbey of Devotion. Reger Funeral Home is assisting the family.
