Warren E. Comer, 88, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.
The Ironton native was born May 8, 1921, the son of the late Thurston and Edith Hardy Comer. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Julia Katherine Sheets Comer, who passed away Oct. 8, 2003.
Mr. Comer was a graduate of Kitts Hill High School and the Interstate Business College. He was a WWII veteran serving in the 35th Division of Patton’s 3rd Army. He retired in 1982 after 32 years of service from Allied Signal, where he was a lab technician. He was a member of Sugar Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a former pastor. He was also a former pastor of Wilgus Fairview Missionary Baptist Church and Myrtle Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 433.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Lee Comer and a step-father, Thomas Stapleton.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Marilyn Comer of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Larry Lowe of Ironton; and two grandsons, Robert Lowe and Jonathan Lowe.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery. Friends may call 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 433.
