PEDRO — Robert Allen Smith, 88, of Pedro, died Monday, March 22, 2010, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, in Ashland, Ky.
The Ironton native was born March 2, 1922, the son of the late Fred William and Hazel Spears Smith. He is survived by his wife, Dora Broughton Smith, whom he married in 1973.
Mr. Smith attended Ironton Schools, was a retired drill operator for Collins Coal Mining Company and a member of Etna Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Dingus; two brothers, George Smith and Kenneth Smith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Wilson of Decatur and Mary Smith of Columbus; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Keith Allen and Julie Smith of Columbus, Bobby Smith of Proctorville and Bill Smith of Michigan; three step-children and their spouses, Florence and Ron Howell of South Shore, Rebecca and Wetzel Kilgore of Melbourne, Fla., and George Edward and Karen Bailey of Pedro; a brother and sister-in-law. Edward and Jean Smith of South Point; a sister, Janice Williams of Ashland, Ky.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
