PEDRO — Janet Gail Stamper, 68, of Pedro, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at her residence.
The Pedro native was born May 4, 1941, the daughter of the late John M. and Margaret L. Layne Haskins. She is survived by her husband, Carroll Stamper whom she married June 24, 1960.
Mrs. Stamper attended Decatur schools and was a graduate of Blackfork High School. She formerly worked as a cook for the Rock Hill schools and worked at S.S. Kresge. She was a member and treasurer for the Amvets Ladies Auxiliary, she sold Home Interior products, loved helping other organizations and helping other people. She enjoyed cooking excellent meals for reunions and holidays and for all the family, shopping and fishing trips on vacations, and she also liked her spring flowers and working on crafts.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Ida Layne and Cecil and Nellie Haskins; a nephew, Scott Evans, and several aunts and uncles.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-laws, Cathy and Ray Beair of Ironton, Kimberly and Mike Walls of Kitts Hill, and Sheila and Jeff Scott of Ironton; three grandchildren, Kyle Jenkins, Brandon Scott and Krysta Jenkins; two step-grandchildren, Braxton and Jonathan England; her best friend, Christine Grizle; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Maxine Haskins of Pedro; two sisters and brothers-in-law; Hilda and Jack Howard of Stuart, Fla., and Connie and Roy Evans of Ironton as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryon Carmon officiating. Burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.
