Phyllis Carpenter

Phyllis A. Carpenter, 65, of South Point, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky.   The Olive Hill, Ky., native was born Feb. 24, 1948, daughter to the late William V. and Cloral (Jarvis) Carpenter.
Ms. Carpenter was a 1966 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and received her associate degree in certified dietary management from the University of Florida.  She was the dietary manager for King’s Daughters and Sons Home for the Aged.  She formerly worked at River Valley Hospital and Sunset Nursing Home.
In additions to her parents she is preceded in death by a nephew James Lee Carpenter.
She is survived by eight siblings, Roy M. (Myra) Carpenter of Coal Grove, Jim V. Carpenter of Ironton, Sue (William) Surritt of Coal Grove, Larry D. (Pearl) Carpenter of Coal Grove, Kenneth Eugene (Gladys) Carpenter of Ironton, Robert (Brenda) Carpenter of Ironton, William J. (LeeAnn) Carpenter of South Point and Kim Aliff of South Point; 18 nieces and nephews, Sherry Lynn Yananaka, Donna Ray Malone, Mary Ann Lucas, Scott Carpenter, John Thompson, Greg Thompson, Cathy McMellon, Chris Surritt, Marc Carpenter, Carrie Ellis, Heather Kerns, Kyle Carpenter Shannon Carpenter, Ryan Carpenter, Erin Carpenter, A.J. Carpenter, Phillip Carpenter and Tyler Jarvis; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with Brother Chad Pemberton officiating.  Burial will follow in Langdon Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home. Ronald Lee Ward, 64, of Proctorville, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, W.Va.  Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor Jerry Galloway and Pastor Meredith Turley.  Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller. Earl Murnahan

Earl Edwin “Ike” Murnahan, 87, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.
The Ironton native was born Dec. 15, 1926, son of the late Clarence and Edith (Broce) Murnahan.
Earl was married in 1952 to Julia M. Bryant.  Ike graduated from Dawson-Bryant High School and Rio Grande College.  He retired as a teacher from Rock Hill.
He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army.
Earl is survived by his spouse and one son, Mark Murnahan of Kitts Hill; two daughters and sons-in-law,   Kathy and Jim Kratzenberg of Ironton and Kristy and Kevin Stevens of Ironton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Doris Murnahan of Kitts Hill, Walter and Juanita Murnahan of Florida and Clarence “Wendall” Murnahan of Coal Grove; two sisters and a brother-in-law,  Jenny Williamson of Xenia, and Eleanor Dorsey and Tom Morgan of Andis.
Also surviving are six grandchildren,  Ryan Sites, Jonathan Sites, Rachel Stevens, Tyler Kratzenberg, Andrea Kratzenberg and Justin Stevens; and three great-grandchildren,  Michael Sites, Adam Sites and Nicholas Sites.
Earl was preceded in death by brother Carl “Teen” Murnahan and granddaughter Angela Megan Kratzenberg.
Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. Teresa Medley

Teresa Carol Ellis Medley, 66, of South Point, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.  Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, by Pastor Chuck Lawrence.  Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller.  Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

Donald Frasher

Donald Frasher, 89, of Dayton, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.  Funeral services will be 2 p.m. at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Brother John Frasher officiating.  Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Rikki White

Rikki Lynn White, 23, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center, Ironton Campus. The Ironton native was born Dec. 29, 1990, and is survived by father and stepmother, Richard D. and Christy White of Ironton and mother and her fiancé, Cheryl Lynn Koster White and Tommy Howell, both of Ironton.
Rikki was a 2009 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a 2012 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in office technology. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a good Christian and loved the Lord. She loved to read and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She was excited about planning her wedding for March 22 and marrying the love of her life.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Michael A. Koster; and her paternal great grandparents, James and Veronica Swain.
She is also survived by her fiancé, Jonathan Scott of Ironton; paternal grandparents, Bernard (Pee-Paw) and Noel (Gom Gom) DePriest of Pedro;maternal grandmother, Arnella (Granny) Koster of Ironton; uncle, Scott DePriest of Ironton; aunt and uncle, Terri and John Slater of Jackson; uncle and aunt, Michael and Tina Koster of Virginia; aunt, Gretchen White of Ironton; cousins, Krystina Scior, Brittney Koster, Brady Koster, Braylon Koster, Kaylee Scior, Tanner Scior; and two stepbrothers, Colten Price and Braydon Price.
She is also survived by many good friends that meant the world to her and many extended family members
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, with Pastor Matt O’Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery and visitation will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Christine Ervin

Christine Ervin; 67,  the loving wife of 47 years to  Isaac (Ike) Ervin of Ironton passed away Sunday Jan. 26, 2014, at her home with her loving family at her side.
She was born March 7, 1946, a daughter of the late Dorothy Bryant and Arthur Leadingham. She was a member of the Ironton Moose Lodge and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers,  Steve, Willis, Rick, Bill and Larry along with three sisters, Phyllis, Vivian and Bobbie.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving daughters, Michelle Lynn Ervin and Wendy Renee Ervin, both at home; a son, Christopher Joseph Ervin, also of Ironton, along with two brothers, Wayne Leadingham of Greenup, Ky., and Gary Leadingham of Ironton and a host of family and friends.

Charles  Scott

Charles “Brent” Scott, 61, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in Cincinnati. The Ironton native was born March 23, 1952, the son of Ruth Lavonne Kinnison Scott of Ironton and the late James Marcus Scott.
Brent was a 1970 graduate of Ironton High School and a former employee for the Coachman of Goshen, Ind. He was an avid basketball, football and tennis player and was a Cleveland Browns fan. He had a talent for music and formerly attended Sidenstricker Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Marc (Catherine Miller) Scott of Lancaster, Steve Scott of Ironton and Jay (Debbie) Scott of Mt. Joy, Pa.

Judy Owens

Judy Dale Owens, 73, of Pedro, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Lawrence County native was born June 14, 1940, a daughter of the late Fred and Anna Hutchinson DePriest. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Owens, whom she married Aug. 31, 1958.
Mrs. Owens was a graduate of Decatur-Washington High School, was a homemaker and attended Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dottie Barnett and Peggy Ashworth; and a son-in-law, Tim Wissman.
In addition to her husband, she is also survived by three daughters, Kimberly and Butch Roberts,  Kathy Wissman and her companion James Helton and Kristy Bamer and her fiancé, Greg Willis, all of Ironton; and two sons, Randy (Christy) Owens of Franklin Furnace and Rick Owens of Ironton. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; and  11 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Blagg officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Furnace Cemetery and there will be no public visitation.
