Edna Opal Sanders, 93, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Jo-Lin Health Center.
She was born Jan. 6, 1916, the daughter of the late James and Josephine Walters of Ironton.
Edna was a lifelong member of the New Valley Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband for 44 years, Albert Sanders; one brother, Ralph Walters; two sisters, Isabel Kelly and Ruth Hardy and three nephews, Gene Kelly, Jerry Kelly and James Hardy.
She is survived by five nieces, Josephine Kaster of Springfield, Ohio, Edna Carrico, Thelma Huff, Ernestine Patterson, and Erma Sark all of Ironton; two people that she loved dearly, a great nephew, Dean Carrico and Jean Arbough a wonderful caregiver for six years.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Hayes Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. Anthony Keaton officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home. Tracy Brammer Funeral Home is in charge of the service.
