Lions Club helping community

One of the many things in Lawrence County that brings communities together is the ability to help others. This past Saturday, the Coal Grove Lions Club continued that effort with its annual pancake breakfast.

Among other things, the event allows the club to support its mission of improving eyesight for children.

The ability to have an eye exam and receive a pair of glasses is something that we sometimes take for granted.

For those who may not have the ability to pay for these exams or glasses, this can be a giant weight off their shoulders.

If you have ever worn glasses or contacts, it would be difficult to envision not having them for the simplest of tasks.

This is especially important for our children because this can ultimately make a difference in seeing the blackboard or reading textbooks clearly.

Additionally, funds raised from the breakfast afford the opportunity to provide scholarships to local students.

This is why it is important to keep providing support to organizations like the Lions Club and others throughout the county.

We applaud those who volunteer for these events and those local businesses who pledge their support.

This support ultimately allows these organizations to have the funding necessary to realize their missions, help others and various worthy causes throughout the county and region.
