SOUTH POINT — Too many free baserunners caused too many runs to score.

Portsmouth had only four hits but took advantage of eight walks and two hit batsmen to blank the South Point Pointers 10-0 in five innings on Thursday.

Portsmouth scored five runs in the first inning on three walks, a hit batsman and a single.

Brandon Wedebrook walked, stole second and came around to score on two passed balls in the second.

A walk, an error and two passed balls gave Portsmouth a 7-0 lead in the fourth.

Hunter Gibson had a triple and scored on a squeeze bunt in a three-run fifth.

Wedebrook got the win as he allowed only three hits.

The Pointers’ offense consisted of Alex Whitt going 2-3 and Trey Kearns 1-3. Whitt also had a double.

South Point (12-2) visits Rock Hill on Friday.
