Thelma Malone

Thelma Margaret Malone, 79, of South Point, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Thelma was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Aberdeen, a daughter of the late Albert and Marie Pfeffer Gast.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Malone; two brothers, Donald and John Gast; and a sister, Mary Jean Eyler. She was co-owner and office manager of Malone Mobile Home Sales and a member of Church of Christ.

Thelma is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ray Malone; four children, Susan Malone, Dave (Valerie) Malone, Marilyn Staley and Diane (Rick) Lawson, all of South Point; a sister, Doris Gaither, of Ripley; a daughter-in-law, Sherri Willey, of Winfield, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, Betsy Hughes, Raven Malone, Melissa Lewis, Amanda Malone, Natalie Malone, Nikki Lewis, Jaclyn Butcher, Cody Lawson, Derek Lawson, Leah Lawson and Levi Lawson; 15 great-grandchildren; and many friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of Christ, 10th and Vine streets in Ironton with Jason Ridgeway officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point is assisting the family with arrangements. Jared Akin

Jared William Akin, 26, a lifetime resident of Franklin Furnace, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 28, 2014, in the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.

He was born March 28, 1988, in Ironton, a son of John W. and Sherry Akin, of Franklin Furnace.

Jared was an EMT with the ABLE Medical Transport Ambulance Service in Portsmouth. He graduated from Green High School.

He was the grandson of the late John Willy Akin, of DeRidder, La., Ella Mae Broussard, of Kaplan, La., Albert and Bernice Blanton, of Franklin Furnace; son-in-law of Dwayne and Annette Coffee, of Ironton, and Sharon and Nick Boll, of Franklin Furnace.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Kayla Coffee Akin; one daughter, Jalynn Willow Akin, of Franklin Furnace; two sisters, Serena and Ted Inniss, and Savanna Akin, both of Daphne, Ala.; and one brother, Josh Akin, of Franklin Furnace.

Visitation for family and friends was after 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Sand Hill Christian Baptist Church in Wheelersburg.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the church by minister Matt Mayhew. Burial will be in the Junior Cemetery in Franklin Furnace.

Pallbearers will be John W. Akin, Joshua W. Skin, John Bowen, Rob Royester, John Dawson, Branden Coffee, Dwayne Coffee Jr. and Matthew Blanton.

Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Alice Stith

Alice Stith, 70, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Lloyd Feldner

Lloyd Dean Feldner, 63, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Naomi Feldner.
