Market poised for success

The Ironton Farmers Market opened its 2014 season a few weeks ago and organizers and vendors are already pulling out all the stops to ensure this year is even more successful than the last.

To celebrate National Strawberry Shortcake Day, Ironton In Bloom teamed up with the Farmers Market on Saturday to offer a sweet treat to market visitors.

The dessert — berries and whipped cream atop a sugar-coated biscuit — was simple but went a long way in the market’s ultimate goal to promote fruits and vegetables, as well as bring people to downtown Ironton.

The Farmers Market is also continuing its mission to reach children. This past weekend the Ohio University Southern Art Collaborative “Arts at the Market” program featured a spaghetti art craft, in which children, as well as adults, could participate.

These types of events are just what the City of Ironton needs to bring the community, young and old, together for fun activities that promote healthy lifestyles and to support Lawrence County’s farmers.

We look forward to seeing what the Farmers Market has to offer this year and are proud there are so many volunteers and growers dedicated to ensuring its success.
