An Ironton teen will spend the first few years of his adult life behind bars after he admitted to evading police.

Zachary Fox, 18, of 2718 S. 11th St., pleaded guilty to third-degree failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and fourth-degree receiving stolen property. A misdemeanor count of falsification was dismissed.

“When he took this little adventure he was on heroin,” Warren Morford, the teen’s attorney said.

Fox evaded police on U.S. 52 going 90 mph, according to Morford.

Judge Charles Cooper sentenced Fox to three years in prison.

“I’m hoping he will take this time and seriously take a look at where he is going,” Morford said.

Fox apologized, saying he wanted to put the incident behind him.

Cooper warned the man 800 people die of drug overdoses in Ohio every year.

“You’ve got a long life ahead of you if you do something to preserve it,” Cooper said.

In other cases:

• Danny Martin, 58, of 56 Township Road 1101, South Point, pleaded guilty to third-degree counts of trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs (oxycodone) and OVI.

Cooper sentenced the man to four years in prison, a five-year driver’s license suspension and a $2,500 fine.

• Johnny Browning, 32, of 751 State Route 522, Pedro, was arraigned on a bill of information of third-degree tampering with evidence, fifth-degree possession of drugs and misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments, to which he pleaded guilty.

Cooper sentenced the man to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation, treatment in a community-based correctional facility, a $1,250 fine and a six-month driver’s license suspension.

• Nada Jenkins, 44, of 6640 State Route 141, Kitts Hill, was arraigned on a fourth-degree count of trafficking in drugs, to which she pleaded not guilty. Cooper set bond at $25,000 cash or surety or $50,000 property.

• Joey Lewis, 31, of 217 N. Sixth St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to counts of third-degree tampering with evidence and fifth-degree possession of cocaine. Cooper sentenced the man to three years in prison and $6,250 in fines.

• James Miller, 25, of 266 Township Road 209, Willow Wood, was sentenced to four years in prison and $250 in restitution for two second-degree counts of burglary.

• Melanie Hadden, 29, of 1628 Artisan Ave., Huntington, W.Va., pleaded guilty to two fifth-degree counts of trafficking in heroin. Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced her to four years CCS/ISP, STAR, 200 hours community service, a six-month driver’s license suspension and a $2,500 fine.

• Lori Zundell, 50, of 83 Township Road 1212, Proctorville, was arraigned on counts of fifth-degree possession of drugs and misdemeanor selling, purchasing, distributing or delivering dangerous drugs, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $10,000 own-recognizance and set a pretrial for Aug. 6.

• Charles Riley, 26, and Melissa Doss, 27, both of 11287 County Road 1, Chesapeake, were each arraigned on counts of fifth-degree breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools, to which they both pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond for each at $5,000 cash or surety and $10,000 OR and set a pretrial for Aug. 6.
