A South Point man accused of setting fire to a woman’s hair denied the charges against him Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Joseph Conley, 21, of 100 Township Road 1436, pleaded not guilty to a second-degree count of felonious assault and misdemeanor domestic violence.

Judge Charles Cooper set bond at $50,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial for Sept. 10.

According to assistant prosecutor Jeff Smith, Conley allegedly soak his girlfriend’s mother’s hair with nail polish remover and set it on fire. The girlfriend was able to put out the flames quickly and the woman suffered only minor burns.

In other cases:

• Shelly Miller, 26, of 718 Mulberry St., Ironton, was sentenced to three years in prison for a third-degree count of harassment by an inmate, to which she previously pleaded guilty.

• Grace Fout, 32, of 202 A Second St. W., South Point, was sentenced to charges of fourth-degree DUI and fifth-degree harassment by an inmate, to which she previously pleaded guilty.

Cooper sentenced the woman to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation, 60 days in the county jail already served, alcohol counseling, a $1,350 fine and a three-year driver’s license suspension.

• Zachary Corn, 21, of 1308 S. First St., Ironton, was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP for two fourth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs, to which he previously pleaded guilty. Cooper also ordered the man to pay a $2,500 fine and suspended his driver’s license for six months.

• Wilma McClain, 59, of 107 Roberts St., South Point, was sentenced to four years CCS/ISP and STAR for a fourth-degree count of trafficking in drugs, to which she previously pleaded guilty.

Cooper also ordered the woman to pay a $2,500 fine and suspended her driver’s license for six months.

• Toni Burns, 30, of 47 Township Road 1427 W., South Point, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to 90 days in prison

• James Ison, 28, of Ironton, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of receiving stolen property. Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced the man to eight months in prison.

• Carl Salyers, 27, of 500 Waterside Drive, Olive Hill, Ky., admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

• Zachary Almekinder, 26, of 209 Township Road 258, South Webster, admitted CCS violations and was sentenced to nine months treatment at The Healing Place in Huntington, W.Va.

• Donald Ball, 34, of 76 Private Drive 2548, Ironton, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree possession of drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $20,000 own-recognizance and set a pretrial for Sept. 3.
