Reaching out to families

All too often in today’s society we see a severe disconnect between children and their parents.

These divides can stem from a multitude of avenues and can severely put a strain on the relationship between children and siblings, children and parents and spouses.

The Strengthening Families program being offered through the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization’s Family Guidance Center is a worthwhile program to help those families who may be facing a difficult situation.

This offering not only helps families learn how to work through conflict, but build their ability to communicate effectively and resolve various issues that arise.

Between the ages of 10-14 can be a very stressful and somewhat muddled time for youth, as they are beginning to move from the child phase of their life into a teenager. Couple that with the increased challenges for our youth today from things like bullying and peer pressure.

This program is for the parents too, however, as it is important to have a better understanding of what children today face while developing the ability to set proper boundaries and successfully communicate.

Ultimately, the ability to strengthen a family can be the cornerstone that allows a child to become a better adult and be well prepared for the challenges that life will undoubtedly throw their way.
