MYRTLE RICE

DEERING — Myrtle Rice, 91, of Deering, moved to her heavenly home, Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, from a local health care center in Ironton. The Lawrence County native was born July 27, 1917, the daughter of the late Robert H. and Garnie Kelley Rice.
Myrtle was a retired employee of King’s Daughters Medical Center, where she worked in the lab for 17 years. She had also worked for Wilson’s Sporting Goods and Henrite Products Co. She was an active member for many years of the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Sunday school class and the Ladies Helping Hands. She loved the Lord and her church. She was a faithful supporter of missionaries and was very faithful in her attendance.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Estelle Swartzwelder and Leona Tooley; and a brother, Robert Merrill Rice.
She is survived by a sister, Bernice Willis of South Point; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vincent and Anna Lee Rice of Deering and Harold and Rita Rice of South Point; a host of nieces and nephews; and a very close friend of many years, Mrs. Olive Brammer of Deering.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Mullens and nephews, the Rev. Rodney Rice and the Rev. Philip Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Getaway Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ice Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 5121 State Route 243, Ironton, Ohio 45638, designated for missionaries.
